The Rams secondary will hold the team back

Not all of these predictions can be great, as we do not live in a perfect world. Despite the leaps and bounds from both Goff and Gurley, and a young impressive receiving core, the Rams will have their struggles as well. Two things come to mind immediately to mind, the Rams offensive line and their weak secondary. While the line will benefit from Whitworth, the secondary is alarming.

The Rams are fairly weak at safety, and outside of Trumaine Johnson, do not have any great options to lock down opposing receivers. Johnson and the Rams have butted heads as well, as the Rams slapped the franchise tag on him. Despite making him the highest paid corner in the league, this has led to Johnson being open about trade talks.

Even if they keep Johnson for the 2017-18 season, the Rams are fairly weak in their secondary. This will undoubtedly be the Achilles’ Heel for the Rams, as they will struggle to match up against pass heavy offenses. Stopping the running game and getting to the quarterback should be fine with Aaron Donald leading the way, but if they face a good offense line they will get eaten up.

Because of this, the Rams are going to need to score a lot to win games. While they will have a young improved offense, it may be a serious struggle to keep up against great teams. Because of this, the Rams may not reach their full potential behind this young offense. However, we may still see something special in 2017.
