Dodgers Rumors: Ten trade targets for the Dodgers
By Jason Reed
Chris Archer
Chris Archer’s name has been tied up in the trade block for quite some time now, and quite frankly, he would be a good fit on the Los Angeles Dodgers. As you will see with many guys on this list, the Dodgers may be seeking another ace to sit behind Clayton Kershaw. While the rotation certainly is crowded, the team could turn that crowd into a viable ace pitcher.
Depth is great, don’t get me wrong. However, it is kind of unnecessary to have seven guys in the starting rotation. Even if the Dodgers wanted to stretch their resources and run a sixth man they would still have too many arms, and it would be a waste to send someone like Alex Wood to the bullpen.
As great as someone like Alex Wood has been, I think in any of these deals for other starting pitchers he would need to be a key piece. In this case, a deal containing Alex Wood and Alex Verdugo would be perfect for Archer. I know Dodger fans hate to give up prospects, but we have plenty of left-handed hitting outfield options in the big leagues.
While all of these deals will differ, any deal including a pitcher will more than likely include Alex Wood. Chris Archer is setting the precedent here, and with a 3.04 ERA, adding Archer behind Kershaw in the National League would propel the Dodgers World Series chances.
