Blake Griffin

With a player option heading into the offseason, and yet another disappointing playoff performance, we may see Blake Griffin and the Lakers part ways. There are many teams that would benefit from Griffin’s ability and star power – one of those teams being the Lakers. With a potential interest of Griffin being the Lakers, this partnership may find itself forming for next year.

Despite this partnership interesting both sides, it should not transpire. While the Lakers are salivating for that next superstar, and they can steal him away from their biggest rivals, bringing in Griffin is not the wisest thing the Lakers can do. With other rumored stars in the mix, paying Griffin the big bucks seems to be a waste of time and money for Los Angeles.

First and foremost, Griffin is inexplicably prone to injury. Griffin has missed more than a season’s worth of games over the last four years and has seemingly always gotten injured when it mattered. How many times have you heard a Clippers fan say “well, if Griffin was healthy we would have won!”

That very reason alone should shy the Lakers away from Griffin, however, another driving point is the Lakers current roster. The power forward position for the Lakers is arguably their best with Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr. Griffin certainly would be an improvement over these guys, but why overpay for an injury prone star when you can address bigger areas of need.

Although the thought of seeing Griffin in purple and gold may intrigue fans, the only locker room that Griffin should ever suit up in at the Staples Center is the visiting locker room.
