The Sacremento Kings may want to move up in the draft to snag Lonzo Ball to be their playmaker of the future, moving up to the second overall selection. The Kings biggest battle for Ball would undoubtedly be the Los Angeles Lakers, so this move accomplishes two things. First, it gives the Kings a better chance in getting Ball, and second, it removes his biggest bidders from the equation.

However, the Lakers are still getting a pretty good return out of this deal. First, the Lakers are bringing in Buddy Hield, a dynamic young shooting guard that will develop with this Lakers team and give even more depth to the Lakers backcourt. The team also is not sacrificing a high first round pick, as they would bring in the fifth overall pick with Hield.

The fifth overall selection will still have some great players at hand, that is no doubt. The Suns, Kings, and 76ers all need point guards, so it should be expected that the likes of Ball, Markelle Fultz, and perhaps De’Aaron Fox are taken. Who knows what the Celtics will do, as they will likely trade down.

This still leaves some favorable options at fifth overall. Josh Jackson could be a very realistic possibility, adding another great scoring forward to the mix. Regardless, the Lakers would be getting a promising Dunn an elite draft prospect, it seems like the perfect combination.

However, if the Lakers were to trade their pick, it would have to be for more star power than Buddy Hield. Although he has a promising future, he cannot be the star to lead the Lakers.
