Lakers Rumors: Which trade destination is the best for D’Angelo Russell?
By Jason Reed
Lakers rumors regarding a possible D’Angelo Russell trade are once again flaring up. Which new home would be the best for the young guard?
D’Angelo Russell was drafted second overall in the 2015 NBA Draft for one purpose, to be the face of the Lakers franchise heading forward. Fast forward two years and Russell has not panned out to be the superstar that the organization was hoping for, instead likely settling for a lesser role. Now, with the drafting of Lonzo Ball imminent, Russell may find himself out of place on the Lakers.
Personally, I do not think that the Lakers should part ways with the young guard. Russell is indeed showing immense promise, has gotten better since his rookie year and could grow into an all-star. Sure, he may not have that superstar caliber, but he could be an intricate part in a young big three in Los Angeles.
However, the Lakers may be looking to cash in on that potential while it is still there. With UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball seemingly guaranteed to head to Los Angeles, and a multitude of stars tied to the Lakers, there may not be room for Russell. Instead of holding onto him, restricting his growth and giving him a lesser role, the Lakers may look to turn Russell into something greater.
It is more likely than not that Russell won’t be traded, but that possibility is certainly on the table. The reported move has seemingly already been talked about, which raises the question: which potential trade destination would be the best fit for D’Angelo Russell?
