Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony’s tenure with the New York Knicks seems to be coming to a close. Anthony and Phil Jackson seem to have a very rocky relationship, and quite frankly, both parties would benefit from going their separate ways. Now, because of this rocky relationship and the Lakers need for a superstar, talks regarding Anthony and the Lakers have emerged.

The better Los Angeles fit for Anthony is undoubtedly the Clippers, that is without question. Anthony has been tied to go join real life friend Chris Paul in Los Angeles for quite some time. Despite this, there is still a very real chance that the Lakers may attempt to pursue Anthony, as Los Angeles is certainly a big enough market to hold his star power.

Especially now, the Lakers may look to pull the trigger. Anthony’s trade value has arguably never been this low as the Jackson likely wants to get rid of him as soon as possible. Anthony does not fit the triangle scheme, and we all know that Jackson’s beloved triangle is the only way to make it in his systems.

Therefore, it would not be absurd to see the Lakers give up someone like Clarkson and a second round pick to snag Anthony. However, even if the price is that low, the Lakers should stay far away from Anthony.

Even though he disappointed last season, an improving Brandon Ingram is still a far better player than Anthony. He may not be better now, but Anthony has been regressing at a rapid pace, and the last thing the Lakers need is another regressing player with a massive contract.
