Alex Wood has arguably been the best pitcher for the Dodgers thus far this season.

Dodgers’ pitcher Alex Wood to be placed on disability due to SC joint inflammation. Having a previous injury 10 months prior, Wood can really relate to the meaning of pain and injury. Wood who has an earned-run average of almost 1.7 is the most recent player to make it to the 10-day disability list.

According to Wood himself, he suffered inflammation after pitching to William Contreras during the second inning of the Dodgers against the Chicago Cubs. Despite the heavy inning, Wood is determined to make ends meet to finish any innings and ERAs.

With Wood’s stats on the line, the Dodgers have the backbone to relieve him of his pitcher duties while he’s out recovering. The Dodgers have called on Brandon Morrow, who plays for the Oklahoma City Dodgers as part of the Pacific Coast League affiliate, to replace Wood for now. Thankfully, the Dodgers will have a pitcher with a more outstanding ERA of over 5.7 while in OKC.

Morrow has been in the major league for 10 years, earning him the veteran title and privilege. So far he has contributed to the Dodgers’ victory with a 5-1 win on the 9th inning against the St. Louis Cardinals today.

More from Los Angeles Dodgers

Wood was scheduled to pitch on Wednesday against the Cardinals but must now wait until his 10-day list terminates. At least his injuries and disability list are not as severe as Brock Stewart as he’s awaiting his 60-day list due to tendonitis.

Besides his current SC joint inflammation, he has a history of the same issue with pain and soreness. However, he stated that he will proceed with more caution so injuries won’t come down to haunt him ever again.

Nonetheless, Wood’s inflammation is not considered a full-fledged injury that would leave him permanently disabled but with a quick recovery.

Although having numerous injuries, he still has a noticeable ERA of 3.21 based out of his entire career.

Wood’s career is not through yet as he is expected to throw in what he’s got at the Nationals next week at Dodger Stadium. He will also compete at the All-Star series that begins in July.

Wood’s strength has proven to persist through major leagues despite the painful reminder of pitching. Although Wood was diagnosed with inflammation of his sternum, he is hopeful to not let the Dodgers down as he will be on disability list just until recovery. He hopes to get back on his feet by this summer.
