Addison Reed – RP

Completely unrelated, but if Addison Reed did somehow end up with the Los Angeles Dodgers it would be the coolest thing ever for me. Having a player on the Dodgers with the same last name would be sweet, and would instantly sell me his jersey. We almost had it with pitching prospect Chris Reed, but he was traded to the Marlins and has since retired.

Anyways, perhaps the biggest big league loss the Dodgers are taking after this season is relief pitcher Sergio Romo. Romo has had his struggles as a Dodger, but outside of Chase Utley, he is the only notable big league talent that is heading to free agency. Regardless, we all know the Dodgers love to boost their bullpen any way they can, and Addison Reed can do just that.

The Dodgers have a wide array of great bullpen arms. Ross Stripling has stepped up nicely in the long relief role, with guys like Pedro Baez, Chris Hatcher, and Josh Fields – to name a few – eating up innings elsewhere.

The Dodgers bullpen is great. It is made up of arms that are all unorthodox, all that likely would not fit in any other scheme. Heck, even Kenley Jansen is unorthodox as he was a catcher his entire baseball career. Once again, this is the magic of Rick Honeycutt and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Just because what they already have is great does not mean they shouldn’t seek to improve it. Reed would be a great addition to this Dodgers bullpen and would serve alongside Baez as an eighth-inning arm. With a career ERA of 3.51, 2.16 in the last three years, Reed would be a great depth signing for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
