D’Angelo Russell

D’Angelo Russell is obviously already on the Lakers, so they would not need to go out and snag a starting shooting guard. I really like D’Angelo Russell, he showed immense improvement last season and could eventually blossom into the star the Lakers want him to be. Heck, the man dropped 40 last season against the Cavs, shooting 63.6%, that’s special.

The problem that has been tied around Russell’s waste for two years now is the expectations that we have had for him. Coming into the league at the same time of Kobe Bryant’s departure, many wanted somebody to take over. With Russell being the second overall selection many expected him to take over, and to take over right away.

The fact of the matter is those are huge shoes to fill, and quite frankly, Russell entered a team that was not ready to succeed. It will take him time to reach his ceiling like it does any NBA rookie, and I guarantee that the ceiling will be reached soon and it will be very special, especially at shooting guard.

Let’s face it, D’Angelo Russell is much better suited for the shooting guard position over the point guard position. He is a score-first, pass-second guard, and you cannot run that way at the point. Sure, guys like Kyrie Irving have thrived in that role, but in the situation, the Lakers are in, they need Russell to score.

Don’t be surprised to see Russell start averaging over 20 points a game in the very near future. I know it is absurd, but he will grow into something special and be a huge spoke on the wheel.
