Dodgers Rumors: Most viable All-Star candidates in Los Angeles
By Evan Lovett
Corey Seager
The future Hall of Fame shortstop is leading the position in votes, but Dodgers fans are notoriously fickle with their contribution to the midsummer classic. As it stands, Cubs SS Addison Russell and Reds upstart Zack Cozart are within striking distance, and Cubs fans tend to show up en masse in the voting.
Seager is behind only Cozart in home runs and OPS, and with seven longballs and a .820 OPS, he is only slightly off of his 2016 pace, when he finished third in the National League MVP voting. Though Cozart is having a great season, he plays for a team that is not projected to reach the postseason and was initially seen as a stopgap for the organization that is looking to get younger.
Seager is a preternaturally poised, mature, ballplayer that really understands the game. He has a gorgeous swing and uses the whole field – a hitter first and power stroke second. The 23-year old is not only an All-Star but a Hall of Famer should he remain healthy. And with a crop of shortstops in the National League as weak as any position in the bigs, Seager will most definitely represent Los Angeles in Miami this year.
