Dodgers Rumors: Most viable All-Star candidates in Los Angeles
By Evan Lovett
Chris Taylor
When Taylor was acquired from the Mariners for one-time prospect Zach Lee, he was an afterthought. Projected to be a utility man at any number of positions, Taylor struggled to make the 2017 opening day roster, starting the season with AAA Oklahoma City. Taylor struggled down there as well, batting only .233. That said, injuries to Andre Ethier and Andrew Toles necessitated a call-up for Taylor, and he has not stopped hitting since.
In only 129 at-bats, Taylor is second on the Dodgers with a .318 batting average and leads all regulars with a .956 OPS. He is averaging one home run per 17 at-bats and has 23 RBI in only 42 games. Most importantly, he has appeared nearly everywhere on the diamond, manning second base, shortstop, third base and the outfield with aplomb. He is a real weapon for Roberts, and his production is one of the biggest surprises for the Dodgers this season.
Though Taylor is not on the All-Star ballot, his play should recall memories of 2014, when utility man Josh Harrison landed a spot on the National League club due to his versatile excellence, despite not having a starting position when the season started.
