Here we see nothing more than swapping the draft picks between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings. Swapping both the fifth and tenth selection in the draft has been a recent topic for discussion, and here, we would see the team moving up to the second overall slot. The Lakers reportedly have not ruled out trading down in the draft as well, making this deal possible.

If the Kings were to move up to the second overall selection it would be to guarantee their preferred choice in the draft. A guy like Markelle Fultz or Lonzo Ball may be on the Kings mind, which would prompt this trade. Heck, they could even be cautious regarding De’Aaron Fox, if he does not fall to the fifth overall pick, they will miss out.

This leaves the Los Angeles Lakers in a great position. With the landscape of the draft, there would still be a great point guard available at fifth overall. They would likely get the choice of Dennis Smith, Malik Monk, or De’Aaron Fox. Heck, even if the Kings move up to select Fox, we may see Ball fall to fifth in the Suns are set on a different guard – assuming he will be selected sooner.

Then, the Lakers still have two more first round draft picks to play with. They could bring in a big center like Jarrett Allen at tenth overall, or even select Ball’s teammate TJ Leaf. The Lakers would effectively be trading one point guard three picks higher for another solid point guard and an addition pick.

If the Lakers get offered this deal from this Kings, I genuinely believe they should take it. This deal would be great from Los Angeles, capitalizing on the Kings’ desperation.
