Closing Thoughts

In any other kind of season, the chances of the Lakers pursuing Tyler Ennis so that he comes back are big. So big, in fact, that the draft really wouldn’t affect that decision or matter to them that much.

Unfortunately, the team is not in that place nor in that state of mind. All of the focus is on growing through the draft, and that means looking at new point guard prospects.

Ennis was pretty good in purple and gold, so the hope for him individually is that he can carry that momentum on to wherever his next team will be.

If the Lakers do end up signing Ennis, it’d be one of the more puzzling off-season moves. In that case, you’d have to question whether the Lakers really are ready to put their trust in the process.

D’Angelo Russell has to have a breakout season to be a star and keep his role, while guys like Julius Randle and Ivica Zubac have to show that they can grow their game.

Brandon Ingram might be untouchable for now, but if he busts next season, that could easily change.

Anywhere Ennis goes, however, expect there to be a culture shock as he tries to find a long term fit to fill his need and want for a long, fruitful NBA career.
