Derek Holland

The former Texas Ranger should be the arm the Dodger inquire about from the Chicago White Sox, not the ace Jose Quintana. We have already discussed why the Dodgers should stay away from Quintana, despite how heavily the White Sox may start to shop him.

Instead, Los Angeles should turn their interest to another arm in the Chicago rotation, that man being Derek Holland. While Holland may not have the same numbers, youth, or favorable contract as Quintana, he still remains the better option for the Dodgers. Quite frankly, Holland would not cost an arm and a leg, making this deal make much more sense for Andrew Friedman.

Holland has been good, not great, thus far for the Chicago White Sox. Pitching to a 4-6 record, Holland has compiled a 3.99 ERA and struck out 56 batters in 67.2 innings. He has had terrible games this year, however, he has shown true glimpses of greatness; one of which being his eight inning, one earned run performance against the Seattle Mariners.

In fact, just three starts ago Holland’s ERA was sitting at 2.37, one of the best in the league. His past two outings have destroyed that, only throwing a combined seven innings and allowing 14 earned runs.

However, Holland has shown that he can be great and has the stuff to be a consistent rotation option down the stretch. Especially in Dodger Stadium where the ball does not carry, and in the NL where pitchers thrive, Holland would be phenomenal for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
