Closing Thoughts

All in all, grabbing Tony Allen is a great example of getting the most bang for your buck. Defensive capability, scoring consistency, and leadership are all things still needed in Los Angeles.

If the front office doesn’t end up making a move for him, it could be a big mistake. Between now and their pursuit of Paul George as a free agent in 2018, the Lakers need something to show for it. Another year of starting good and then blowing it won’t be very impressive to any big names giving them a listen.

Also, if they have Allen around and happen to sign George next summer, having the superstar play with a veteran like Allen has the potential to be a great fit.

George is more of that scorer and all-around player, while Allen has his p’s and q’s.

The best thing about going after Tony Allen, however, could be the price tag. Los Angeles can pay him pretty good, but they have to be sure they don’t overpay for his services.

It is the mistake that still haunts the previous front office team, and is something they cannot afford to do again.
