Alex Wood extended his perfect record to seven games for the Dodgers with a win over the Reds on Friday.

The Dodgers starting rotation started the season on a bad note with the injury bug hitting the rotation early in the season.

Luckily, the Dodgers galore of depth at the pitching position has kept the season alive for the boys in blue.

The Dodgers currently have the best starting rotation in the league with the best AVG and WHIP. A big reason for having the best rotation is thanks to the holy Clayton Kershaw who is leading the team in innings pitched, strikeouts and wins.

That shouldn’t come as a surprise since Kershaw has always been the face of the rotation but the last time Kershaw lead in all three categories was in 2013. What ended up being the last year of the four straight seasons starting from 2010 that Kershaw led the Dodgers in those same categories.

Which is why Kershaw has always been a participant in the last six All-Star Games.

At the looks of the current All-Star voting numbers, the Dodgers are set to have no positional players on the field in this year’s All-Star Game at Marlins Park. Instead, the Dodgers would be represented with a seventh straight All-Star appearance from Kershaw and most likely a second straight All-Star appearance for Kenley Jansen, but is that it.

No, Wood should strongly be considered for this year’s All-Star Game and has to be an automatic replacement for a pitcher who can’t participate.

Wood has shown the ability to give a strong pitching performance as a starter or from the bullpen.

This season has been a great year for Wood who leads the Dodgers with the best ERA and a perfect record for the season. Wood has also been lights out from the bullpen with a .000 ERA in his 5.1 IP.

Not to mention that Wood is one of the top five starters in the National League right now with three of those starters only pitching just one game.

If Wood continues his pitching performance for the rest of the season. Wood will definitely pass his career wins of 12 in a season, which he set in 2015 when he won seven with the Atlanta Braves and five with the Dodgers after being traded.

The Dodgers could lean towards moving Wood up the rotation right behind Kershaw to give them back to back games with their best two pitchers or to just leave things alone. I mean, if you were Dave Roberts. Why would you mess with something that is working?

By the time July 11 comes around for the 88th All-Star Game in Miami, Florida. Wood is going to be in one of those bright orange National League jerseys and will still have his perfect record.
