Hyun-Jin Ryu

Dodger fans had not seen Hun-Jin Ryu pitch for quite some time. The Korean-born pitcher missed the entire 2015 season and only pitched 4.2 innings in 2016. Nobody expected Ryu to come back in 2017 and make the rotation, however, a very solid Spring Training proved everyone otherwise. Ryu had earned his spot in the rotation, beating out the thriving Alex Wood.

Then Ryu’s struggles began. The left-hander currently has a 4.42 ERA, although he is pitching well against the Reds today. He had a very short-lived stint in the bullpen, throwing four shutout innings for the Dodgers against the St. Louis Cardinals. Ryu thrived in the bullpen, yet, the Dodgers didn’t keep him there.

The fact of the matter is that there is not enough room for Ryu in the bullpen. Sure, the team could get rid of shaky guys like Chris Hatcher, but Ryu is for long relief situations. Keeping a starting pitcher for mop up roles seems unwise. That is why the Dodgers should trade him, to get something out of him.

Even if it is just to flip Ryu for a bullpen pitcher, that would still be great. The Dodgers do not need Ryu whatsoever, but there are a lot of teams out there that have a very thin rotation.

Hyun-Jin Ryu has proven that he can be special at times, he just needs to knock down the consistency portion. For the Dodgers, the best move is to deal him.

Next: Alex Wood can win the Cy Young

Overall, the Dodgers rumors will continue to pick up steam until we cross the trade deadline. Until then, stay on the lookout for one of these three players being dealt.
