With a Paul George trade on the table, Los Angeles cannot afford to have it backfire.

There’s plenty of reasons for Los Angeles to get into the trade mix for Paul George. Instead of waiting a year for free agency, the front office sees a golden opportunity to get their guy.

George hasn’t been quiet or tried to hide his desire to play for Los Angeles. After telling the Pacers he intends to leave Indiana, their front office had to try frantically to see if they could still get something for him via trade.

At one point, the Cavaliers seemed like they were jumping in the middle of things too. However, after how things have unfolded with the GM situation in Cleveland, that doesn’t seem likely.

Following a blockbuster trade that sent D’Angelo Russell to Brooklyn ahead of the draft, the Lakers have some serious cap space available. This is what will help them at least make a considerable offer to a guy like George.

That in mind, there’s a couple of things to be concerned about in the case that it does go through. Here’s three reasons why trading for Paul George right now could end up backfiring on the Lakers.
