Despite effectively swapping Lonzo Ball for D’Angelo Russell, the Lakers are still thin at guard. According to the latest Lakers rumors, who may be a target for LA?

Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka have been fairly busy as of late with the Los Angeles Lakers. Running the team like they are playing NBA 2K, the team has seen a huge change in just the last week. A week ago today the Lakers traded D’Angelo Russell and Timofey away to the Brooklyn Nets for Brook Lopez and a first round selection.

Then, the Lakers proceeded to do what we all saw coming and draft Lonzo Ball with the second overall selection in the 2017 NBA Draft. Ball effectively took over D’Angelo Russell’s role at point guard after many thought that Russell would merely move to shooting guard. Despite it being a one for one swap, the Lakers are still thin at guard.

Alongside Russell, the Lakers have Jordan Clarkson. Clarkson saw time at point guard at the end of last season, but with Ball in the mix, he may again become the team’s starting shooting guard. Clarkson is a good player and all, but he by no means blows anyone away.

Outside of the starting unit, the Lakers don’t have many options. They drafted Josh Hart, who may just be the biggest sleeper of this year’s draft class. Then, the roster falls into the trenches of David Nwaba and Tyler Ennis.

If the Lakers want to be taken seriously next season they are going to need to bolster their overall depth at guard. To do so, the team will likely have to turn to free agency, bringing in a viable option to eat up minutes for the Lakers.
