Lakers Rumors: Possible trades to help prepare for Paul George
By Jason Reed
A straight two for two swap, here we would see the Lakers do business with the rivaled Celtics to bring in more depth. With the Celtics drafting Jayson Tatum, and heavily pursuing Gordon Hayward, they are going to need to make room at forward. With Jae Crowder, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, the Celtics have trade options at forward.
The easiest to deal would be Crowder, and for the Lakers, he would be their best bet. Crowder is an already established player and would add much-needed depth to the Lakers behind Brandon Ingram. Crowder is a physical player despite his six-foot-six frame, and could even dabble at shooting guard for the Lakers.
Alongside Crowder, the Lakers could bring in Marcus Smart to back up Lonzo Ball. Smart is a great back up option for the Lakers, while Jordan Clarkson provides an upgrade for the Celtics. Sure, Smart may not be as efficient as Clarkson yet, but with a reduced contract and youth on his side he is will help the Lakers in the long run.
Boston needs a big man who can rebound the basketball, so instead of trading future picks, the Lakers can give up Ivica Zubac in these deal. With Brook Lopez in the fray, the Lakers don’t necessarily need Zubac. Granted, this deal does put their necks on the line if the team cannot bring in a viable center after next season, but it may be a risk worth taking.
