NBA Free Agency: Javale McGee is meeting with the Clippers
By Keith Rivas
The latest NBA Free Agency news is that Javale McGee is meeting with Los Angeles.
For the Clippers to make NBA Free Agency really work for them, they have to go after guys that can function well around Blake Griffin. After signing and trading Chris Paul away, they did the same but received a player in Danilo Gallinari.
The latter trade sent Jamal Crawford and Diamond Stone out of town. This leaves not just a shooter spot open, but a center opening up for grabs. According to a tweet from ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clippers will have their meeting with former Warriors center Javale McGee.
If the team signs McGee, it’d be another former Warriors star to come to Los Angeles. Last summer, that was Marreese Speights.
McGee could fit well with the Clippers, he’d just have to be convinced to leave a super team. He was one of the only good big men that the Warriors have had the last few seasons.
Having to fight his way onto the roster a year ago and earn his position, that’ll be hard for him to give up easily. The Clippers can make a good offer to him by pushing a multi-year deal. Nothing crazy, but two years wouldn’t be something that would break the bank.
Both sides would be happy and benefit from that if it played out that way.
With Golden State, he averaged six points and three rebounds. Los Angeles would likely need him to be more effective on the boards, but scoring wise, there’s not much more you can ask.
The center has played for five teams in his nearly decade long career. Three of those have come in the past three seasons. Besides Golden State, he played the year before that with Dallas and two years ago with Philadelphia.

That being said, him moving somewhere else wouldn’t come as a complete shocker. It’ll just take work to get to a good deal.
