Dodgers Rumors: Possible trades using prospects for another star
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers have one of the best farm systems in the MLB. What exactly is the worth of those prospects according to these Dodgers rumors?
The Los Angeles Dodgers are a rare breed in today’s MLB. Not only are they one of the most dominant teams in all of baseball, they also hold onto one of the best farm systems we have seen. Bleacher Report ranked the Dodgers’ farm as the ninth best in the MLB back in February. While Cody Bellinger’s promotion does hurt that ranking, they are still very solid.
Los Angeles possesses five prospects within the top 100 on MLB Pipeline; the only teams with more are the Braves (9), Yankees (8), White Sox (7) and Astros (6). Take into consideration that Julio Urias is no longer listed as he exceeded his rookie limits in 2016, and one can argue that the Dodgers deserve six as well.
However, recent Dodgers rumors and speculation have spelled for a trade in Los Angeles. That trade will undoubtedly be for either another starting arm or a bat that bashes southpaws, as the Dodgers are one good to great arm or bat away from becoming practical shoe-ins for the World Series.
Not wanting to get rid of any big league talent, Los Angeles will likely pick from their farm. They have picked their places, and picked them well, in the past. The infamous deal with Boston for Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez, Josh Beckett, and Nick Punto the Dodgers gave up James Loney alongside two top 100 prospects. Neither of which had an impact in the MLB.
Using deals like that, alongside the trade with the Oakland Athletics last season, we can gauge what the Dodgers would need to give up for a top star.
