If the Royals continue their push to the top of the division, this deal may never happen. However, with a myriad of Royals set to become free agents next season the team may look to sell while they can. While Yasiel Puig has had an improvement of a season if he continues to only hit .179 against southpaws his chances will likely be up.

Lucky for the Dodgers, they completed almost this same exact deal last season. Los Angeles traded for a resurging Rich Hill, this time a resurging Jason Vargas, and a right fielder that can hit lefties with only one year under contract in Josh Reddick. With both Vargas and Cain set to be free agents after this season, this deal is nearly identical.

However, the Dodgers would be getting a better return in this deal than they did last season. Hill, at the time, was already battling his blisters while Reddick is not quite the player Cain is. Therefore, the Dodgers would have to pay a little bit more than they did last year, but quite frankly, it shouldn’t be a huge blow to this Dodgers organization.

Last season they gave up Grant Holmes, ranked 65th before the start of 2016, alongside Jharel Cotton and Frankie Montas. Depending on who you ask or what ranking you see, both Cotton and Montas were in the nineties or higher.

In this deal, we would see Los Angeles give up their second best prospect arm Walker Buehler (79), Yusniel Diaz (91) and Jordan Sheffield (NR). While these guys aren’t the highest rated, they are some of the youngest in the Dodgers farm and will rank higher next season.
