In sweeping the Diamondbacks the Los Angeles Dodgers gave us even more fireworks in an already magical season.

There is something going on at Chavez Ravine, call it luck, magic, destiny, call it whatever you want; but the best team in baseball keeps finding different ways to show that for the first time since 1988 a World Series might be in the future for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Coming into their three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks the Dodgers had a 2.5 game lead in the National League West. After tonight’s comeback 5-4 win that lead is now 5.5 with the Dodgers continuing to roll into the All-Star break.

The pitching of Rich Hill gave the Dodgers a chance throughout the night Hill was the third straight starter to go seven innings in this series. Hill struck out nine Diamondbacks but was given a no-decision because he left the game tied 1-1 as the Dodgers were struck out 12 times by Diamondbacks starter Robbie Ray.

The game looked lost when the usually reliable Dodgers bullpen gave up three runs in the top of the eighth and ninth on two home runs and a balk. The margin remained the same in the bottom of the ninth as Diamondbacks closer Fernando Rodney came in with a 4-1 lead.

Then, as if they were summoning the ghosts of 1988, the Dodgers magic kicked in when Rodney could not buy a strike. He gave up a leadoff single to Yasiel Puig and then subsequently walked three straight batters making it 4-2.

With the bases still juiced and zero outs, Corey Seager tied the game on a two-run single sending Dodger Stadium into euphoria. An intentional walk to Justin Turner, who started the day being voted to his first All-Star game, led to the bases being loaded for “Mr. Grand Slam” Chris Taylor.

Taylor, who has been a great utility player who epitomizes the grind it out philosophy of the team, has three grand slams this year. Taylor didn’t put it in the seats, but he did provide the walk-off hit as his single gave the Dodgers a 5-4 win.

Taylor, who is an example of the depth that the Dodger brain trust has built up, had four hits on the night. He was essentially brought over for nothing in a trade with Seattle Mariners last year. Taylor has been a revelation this year hitting .284 and placing in the top five on the team with 10 home runs and 37 runs batted in.

With their 22nd come from behind victory it is obvious you can never count out this 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers team.
