Lakers Rumors: Ranking how each rumored target would fit in LA

3. Rajon Rondo
Rajon Rondo was once one of the best point guards in all of the league. Although he was often overshadowed by the big three in Boston of Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Kevin Garnett, Rondo was a two-way menace that helped lead the Celtics to their first title in 22 years in 2008. Rondo was the perfect example of a pass-first guard with stellar defense.
However, that was also nearly ten years ago. Don’t get me wrong, Rondo is still a great player that would make a good bench addition to any team, but the allure surrounding his name has faded. Last season we saw his points drop to 7.8 per game, his assists to 6.7, and his rebounds to 5.1.
This was coming off of the year prior in which he posted a career high 11.7 assists per game. Whether it was the locker room atmosphere in Chicago, or father time himself catching up to Rondo, NBA fans saw a huge dip in production out of the veteran guard.
Still, Rondo can bring something to the Lakers bench and would make them better. But just because he would make them better does not mean he is what they need. There are better options out there than Rondo, and unless they strike out on everyone, Rondo shouldn’t head to LA.
Los Angeles already has a distributing point guard in Lonzo Ball in the starting five. If the Lakers are going to go the route of a point guard they should go for a scoring guard behind Ball, giving the team two different dynamics to utilize.
