For 58 consecutive summers, Vin Scully provided the soundtrack for Los Angeles. Though the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers is no longer broadcasting baseball, his voice can still be heard during Dodger broadcasts.

Though wunderkind broadcaster Joe Davis is doing an outstanding job on Los Angeles Dodgers telecasts for SportsNet LA, the mellifluous sounds of Vin Scully’s voice echo throughout Los Angeles. For the most ardent Vin fans, there are fleeting moments during each telecast where the Hall of Fame broadcaster’s voice can be treasured.

Scully, who was last seen in Dodger Stadium during his induction to the Dodgers Ring of Honor on May 3rd, can be heard every night during Dodger broadcasts on KLAC AM 570, or for SiriusXM subscribers. Don’t get too excited, Dodger fans – he does not weave any of his timeless stories into the broadcast, and he does not sit alongside Charley Steiner, Rick Monday or Kevin Kennedy in the booth.

His appearances are twofold: his voice is still being used for endorsement deals for Mercedes-Benz Dealers of Southern California and is also used to introduce Charley Steiner and Rick Monday when back from commercials: “. . .and now back to Rick and Charley in the Mercedes-Benz broadcast booth,” which appears to be a promo dating to at least 2015.

Though Mercedes-Benz is a proud sponsor of the Dodgers in many regards, sponsoring giveaways including the Vin Scully Microphone Night in April, there are no public links to the value or terms of the endorsement deal Scully may have with the German automaker.

Vin Scully’s 2005 Mercedes-Benz was listed for sale on Auto Trader in 2010, however, as an indication that the broadcaster’s affinity for the car may go beyond endorsements.

If tuning into each broadcast is not enough Vin for Scully die-hards, the legend will be presented with ESPN’s Icon Award during their ESPY telecast on Wednesday, July 10th. ‘Breaking Bad’ superstar and Dodger fan Bryan Cranston will present Scully with the award, which is designated for individuals “whose careers have left a lasting impression on the sports world.”

And the effect that Vin Scully had on the sports world was resounding. During his final season, thinkpieces and reflections were commonplace on nearly every media outlet. ESPN had a particularly poignant and reflective compendium of memories from his peers, colleagues, and current athletes, perhaps a precursor to the Icon Award.

Though Vin may not be with Dodger fans on a live-action, daily basis, those that need their Vin fix can still tune in and rekindle the flame for brief periods during each game. Just make sure you have your radio tuned to KLAC AM 570.
