8. Wild pitch extravaganza – June 25 vs. Colorado Rockies

In what was just one of many examples of the heart this team possesses, the Los Angeles Dodgers were able to overcome a 5-0 deficit against the Colorado Rockies; via a unique method, the wild pitch. After dealing with some control issues of their own early in the game, Los Angeles capitalized on the mistakes of the Rockies.

It was a bad day for starter Brandon McCarthy. McCarthy has had a stellar season, one that is a resurgence after only pitching in 14 games combined for the Dodgers in the last two seasons. However, on June 25 McCarthy had a case of the Yips, causing him to lose control of his pitches early on. Colorado rocked McCarthy for five runs in just three innings.

That did not stop the Dodgers from storming back in the game, however. After going down 5-0 in the third the team bounced back with four runs in the bottom half, courtesy of two long bombs. Then, in the seventh, the wheels started to fall off for Colorado. Holding a 6-4 lead Adam Ottavino threw two wild pitches, amounting for three runs scored.

In the eighth Ottavino was at it again, throwing two more wild pitches for two more Dodgers to come home, making the score 9-6. Cody Bellinger then delivered the dagger with a two-run home run, his second of the game, which helped the Dodgers coast to a 12-6 victory.

This was so important as it completed the sweep of the Rockies. finally giving the Dodgers a credible lead in the division.
