Los Angeles Dodgers: The ten best moments of the first half
By Jason Reed
6. Corey Seager’s three home run game – June 20 vs. New York Mets
Corey Seager had a special night on Tuesday, June 20 against the New York Mets. In what turned out to be a 12-0 routing of the Mets, the Dodgers were led by the power surge of Seager. Likely sick of Bellinger hogging the home run spotlight, Seager decided to do something he’s already done once before, hit three long bombs.
The first home run came in the first when Seager belted the ninth pitch of the game for a two-run bomb. Then came the fourth when Seager sent the full count pitch to bounce atop the wall for a solo shot. Then, finally, in the fifth Seager again tucked it over the left field wall to give him a three-run home run, his third dinger of the game and his sixth RBI.
The crazy thing is that Seager had a serious chance to make history and came feet away from doing so. Seager came up in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded and sent a long fly ball to the left-field warning track. Should Seager have hit that ball ten feet farther, he would have accomplished something that has only been done once, and done so in AA.
That rare feat would have been the home run cycle, hitting a solo, two-run, three-run, and grand slam. Tyrone Horne performed the only feat of this nature in 1998 for the Arkansas Travelers. Horne never even stepped foot on an MLB field.
This would have ended Seager’s night with four home runs and ten RBIs. Seager was feet away from having the best game in MLB history.
