The Lakers have made their first major splash of NBA Free Agency 2017.

Looks like the Lakers decided to be players in NBA Free Agency after all. The last few seasons have been disappointing, to say the least, when it comes to acquiring a star. Big names have come and gone from meetings with Los Angeles and nothing has come of it.

Now it seems that Paul George isn’t as sold on Los Angeles as people and the media would like to think. At one point, in fact, it seemed like George to LA was a done deal. After commenting that they’ll need to lure other guys in, it didn’t take Magic Johnson long to respond.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will become part of the Lakers via a one year deal worth $18 million. As first reported by ESPN, the move shows that the Lakers are serious about winning sooner rather than later.

It’s not that Caldwell-Pope completely changes the landscape, but having a dependable shooting guard to put in with the young core is a solid addition. Los Angeles also seems to have their eyes set on point guard Rajon Rondo, but that has yet to be determined.

Before anything else goes down, here’s three reasons that signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was the right move for the Lakers.
