The Lakers filled their void at shooting guard in signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. With the latest Lakers rumors, which players could come to LA after his deal expires?

The Los Angeles Lakers did a great job in signing a rental shooting guard. Los Angeles signed free agent shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to a one year, $18 million dollar contract. Expensive, yes, but for only one season bringing in Caldwell-Pope fits the narrative that LA is trying to paint perfectly.

It is evident, the team does not want to sit around twiddling their thumbs waiting for a potential future superstar. With no draft pick, there is no reason for the Lakers to shoot for their first playoff appearance in what will be five years. Nobody expects them to make it far, but to just be able to compete is a huge turnaround.

Los Angeles is using rookie point guard Lonzo Ball as the biggest piece of bait to draw in future stars. Ball has excelled in the NBA Summer League, again just Summer League, and has the potential to be one of the best facilitators this game has. To help Ball get better, and to pad that stat line a little, the team is surrounding him with as many weapons as possible.

Magic Johnson brought in a great young shooting guard via free agency, a dominant center with range in a trade and a stretch four power forward in the draft. Ball has a good amount of weapons in his arsenal, which again, will only be good for his progression.

However, there is a very strong chance that this one season will be Caldwell-Pope’s lone season in Los Angeles. Therefore, what three players could potentially play shooting guard for the Lakers after Caldwell-Pope?
