Dodgers News: It is time to reconsider acquiring Andrew McCutchen
By Jason Reed
The most recent Dodgers news has surrounded the team’s interest for more pitching. However, LA should revisit an old rumored target.
Despite having the best pitching staff in all of baseball the latest Dodgers news has entailed that Andrew Friedman and company are interested in bringing in more pitching. Whether that pitching is in the starting rotation or is a southpaw in the bullpen, that interest is there.
For the most part, that makes sense. Although the team does have fantastic statistics, come playoff time they could use a great right-handed arm to start or a dominant bullpen option. Kenley Jansen can only throw so much, we saw that last year. It would be foolish for the team to pass on any opportunity that increases their chances at World Series success.
However, there is a different talent that Los Angeles can bring in to help solidify their title chances. It is the same man who was a hot topic of trade rumors during the offseason. That man, as you can already tell by the title, is Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen.
Now in June of 2017, the Dodgers are going to have to pay far more than they would have for McCutchen back in December of 2016. After a mediocre 2016 that left many questioning McCutchen’s future he has bounced back with an outstanding 2017.
McCutchen is batting .294 with 15 home runs, 51 runs batted in and 57 runs scored. Compare that to the year prior in which his average was a career-low .256 along with just 24 home runs and 79 runs batted in. Although he may not be NL MVP Andrew McCutchen, he is still playing great.

The Pittsburgh Pirates seem to be entering another rebuilding phase. Despite having a good amount of talent the team is failing to succeed. With some great prospects waiting in the minors, it’s time for Pittsburgh to have a flash sale and look to the future. Thus prompting an Andrew McCutchen trade.
Los Angeles would likely have to give up a prospect package headlined by Alex Verdugo, but it may be worth it. McCutchen would make LA the hands down favorite to win it all if they already aren’t.
McCutchen could again become an everyday center fielder ahead of Joc Pederson, or even fill in time in right if Yasiel Puig has his struggles. McCutchen is batting an outstanding .328 against southpaws this season. Los Angeles will undoubtedly face some tough lefties in the postseason, further emphasizing the need for someone who can mash them.
McCutchen brings just that. While he may be a step or two slower than before, and may not be the greatest fielder, his bat alone would make the Dodgers deadly. Just imagine a lineup that starts with McCutchen, Corey Seager, Justin Turner and Cody Bellinger. That it special.

Hopefully, we can see trade talks involving McCutchen pick up again. If this trade turns into conclusive Dodgers news than the team may just be on their way to the World Series.
