Dodgers Rumors: Left-handed bullpen trade targets LA should consider
By Jason Reed
Zach Britton
We ran an article yesterday on why Zach Britton would be the perfect addition to punch LA’s World Series ticket in 2017. I love this deal so much that I am including it on this slideshow, because quite frankly, Britton would make the Dodgers perennial shoe-ins to make it to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1988.
Granted, nothing is ever guaranteed in baseball and the worst thing to do is to get your hopes up on bold predictions only to be disappointed. However, the Dodgers are already great and we saw with Andrew Miller in Cleveland that adding a dominant closer to an already dominant pen is nothing but excellent.
Britton would take a near identical role as Miller did with the Indians last season. Kenley Jansen would remain the ninth inning guy, with Britton not having a set role. Los Angeles would bring Britton in whenever the other team starts to rally. Postseason baseball can change like a flip of the switch, bringing in Britton is bringing in somebody to douse those flames.
We have seen it in the past four postseasons for the Dodgers. Whether it is Clayton Kershaw or somebody else, the Dodgers have been in situations to win only for their opposition to come from behind with a huge rally.
With Britton in the bullpen, this would not happen. Whether he needs to come out in the fifth inning or the eighth inning, Britton is the perfect guy to help slam the door shut on the Dodgers’ postseason opponents.
