The decade that last saw the Los Angeles Dodgers win the World Series had some great memories and some formidable foes.

For the Los Angeles Dodgers, the 1980’s was a period of growth and change, the veteran “Blue Bombers” of the 1970’s turned over bringing in an influx of young players that were highly touted but never really lived up to the expectations put on them.

The Los Angeles Dodgers farm system did go international as their prospect camp in the Dominican Republic brought in some of the countries forerunners who would turn the country into a veritable baseball factory. The Dodgers also introduced baseball to Fernando Valenzuela electrifying the league and permanently tying the team to Los Angeles’ large Hispanic community.

As the Dodgers went through their transitions the team was challenged by new emerging teams in their own division as well as an emerging power in the East. The Dodgers also struggled for the first time in a decade making it easier to shake up the front office when a public relations nightmare popped up. For the Dodgers, the 80’s provide disappointments but indelible memories that still resonate today.

Therefore, let’s take a jump into our time machine and go back thirty seasons ago. Many present day Dodger fans grew up in this era, so looking back at the top five enemies may just strike a nostalgia cord.
