Yadier Alvarez. 51. 71. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Previously Ranked: 49. RHP. player

Yadier Alvarez is the only Dodger in the top 100 that fell down in the rankings. Although he was ranked 49 at the beginning of the season, and a dip to 51 does not seem that bad, we was ranked as high as 41 because of call ups before this update. Essentially, Alvarez fell ten spots in the rankings and it was deserved.

Alvarez likely will not be a Dodger after this season anyway, so this drop should not be concerning. With the Dodgers pursuing big league pitching, and Alvarez still at least two years away, he becomes a huge trade chip. A lot of people don’t like this as Alvarez ceiling is so high, but quite frankly, the Dodgers need to sell him before his stock plummets.

The transition to minor league baseball has not been an easy one for Alvarez. After a disappointing stint in high A, the Dodgers still promoted Alvarez to AA Tulsa. Combined at the two levels the hard throwing right-hander has posted a 5.26 ERA, walking 4.1 batters for every nine innings pitched. Although his strike out rate is high, that walk rate is a huge red flag.

This is why Diaz fell from being the Dodgers top prospect to being just the third prospect in the system. Don’t get me wrong, being the third best talent in a great farm along with being the 51 ranked in all of baseball is great.

However, this is why the Dodgers should sell high on him. Andrew Friedman can still get a great return on Alvarez and he needs to pull that trigger soon.
