Lakers Rumors: Seven things to expect during the 2017-18 season
By Jason Reed
As the summer blows by and the next NBA season looms the Lakers rumors have amplified. Now, what can we expect out of the purple and gold next season?
Laker fans have high expectations after all of these Lakers rumors, that is an understatement. After a shake up that will consist of three new players in the starting five, for the first time in awhile, there is a lot of promise heading into October. With a new point guard in Lonzo Ball, a new center in Brook Lopez and a new shooting guard in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope the Lakers are significantly better than last season.
All of this shake up started with the trade that sent D’Angelo Russell to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Lopez. Also included in the deal was Timofey Mozgov and the Nets 2017 first round pick; allowing Los Angeles to free up cap space after this season.
This freed up cap space is the perfect symbol of what the Lakers are trying to do for the future. Lopez and Caldwell-Pope alone will free up $40 million next summer, with more options for the Lakers to open space as well.
All of these moves have been calculated by Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka. The fans are not blind to this, causing a great amount of speculation and Lakers rumors. Due to this, we can start to make predictions for 2017-18.
Some may be good and some may be bad, that is just the nature of prediction. With that being said, let’s look at seven things we can expect from the Lakers next season.
