Los Angeles Dodgers: Five best trades by Andrew Friedman’s front office
By Jason Reed
2. Alex Wood trade
This trade is pretty complicated, so it is near impossible to use the pretty trade graphic that has been used on the rest of the slides. Los Angeles sent the Braves Hector Olivera, Paco Rodriguez and Zachary Bird to the Atlanta Braves in exchange for Alex Wood, Bronson Arroyo, Jim Johnson and Jose Peraza.
The Marlins were also included in this deal. Los Angeles received Mat Latos and Michael Morse from Miami in exchange for three pitching prospects that haven’t touched the big leagues yet. Wood and Avilan are the two that stuck around, with the other acquisitions either being traded for current talents or getting let go.
Overall, this deal is nothing but a win for the Dodgers. Nobody the team sent has turned out to be anything special, with the most significant prospect involved being Jose Peraza; who they acquired. Sure, they later traded him to the Reds in the deal that landed Trayce Thompson. However, that deal set the dominos to land Rich Hill from Oakland.
Now, two years after this deal, Alex Wood has turned into something special for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Although he has struggled in the second half, Wood is utilizing his natural talent and is thriving in pitcher friendly Dodger Stadium.
Andrew Friedman saw something in Wood that was worth this three team trade, and yet again, he was right. He likely did not expect this caliber of play, however.
