Los Angeles Rams: Four crucial story lines to watch for next season
By Jason Reed
Can Jared Goff succeed with new weapons?
Jared Goff’s play may have been the most disappointing thing for the Los Angeles Rams last season. To be fair, too high of expectations were pinned on Goff’s shoulders after the Rams traded up to the first overall selection to pick him. Los Angeles sent away two first round, two second round and two third round picks just to move up to select Goff.
When your franchise literally pays an arm and a leg for a quarterback you naturally will expect him to come in and be a world burner, I understand that. Instead, the Rams were greeted with nine painful games of Case Keenum starting at quarterback followed by seven disappointing performances by Goff.
In all honesty, Goff’s rookie season was not that bad. Sure, it wasn’t good by any stretch of the imagination, but seeing other rookies like Carson Wentz and especially Dak Prescott thrive made Goff’s play a bitter pill to swallow for fans.
In his seven games started Goff threw for a total of 1089 yards with five touchdowns and seven interceptions. However, on the bright side, the Rams committed yet another draft to Goff, surrounding him with new weapons to play with.
Gerald Everett, Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds will all join the receiving core that already added Robert Woods. With Pro Bowl tackle Andrew Whitworth in the fold now as well, Jared Goff has more weapons and protection at his disposal. Whether or not he can utilize will ultimately dictate the Los Angeles Rams’ season.
