Can Sean McVay erase what Jeff Fisher left behind?

The Los Angeles Rams went out and made even more news, signing the youngest head coach in NFL history back in January. The 31-year-old McVay is not only the youngest coach right now, he is the youngest head coach in NFL history. To put it into comparison, McVay is younger than the likes of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and last season’s MVP Matt Ryan.

Whether this was a statement or a genuine move to get better is yet to be seen, but McVay does fit the young mold the Rams are creating. Last season the Rams just had three players that were 30 or older, all of which are still younger than McVay.

Despite having youth on his side, McVay still is going to have a headache when turning this Rams team around. McVay effectively has to erase everything that former head coach Jeff Fisher left behind. Although at times Fisher did show a lot of promise and got the Rams close to that first winning record in over a decade, he did finish his Rams tenure with a 31-45-1 record.

If McVay wants to be successful he is going to have to implement an entirely new system in Los Angeles. Chances are this is exactly what McVay has in mind, especially after the disaster that was last season.

Whether this is running the offense primarily through Jared Goff or creating a whole new look on defense, something needs to change. However, luckily for McVay, he won’t be alone in this change.
