1963 Dodgers – 99-63, World Series Champions

A year after losing the NL pennant in a playoff with the San Francisco Giants the Dodgers came back and were able to win the NL pennant on the strength of their pitching staff and team defense.  Sandy Koufax led the staff by going 25-5 leading the league in strikeouts with 306 and ERA at 1.88.

Though not a slugging team the Dodgers did have the league leader in batting average in Tommy Davis, the team also relied on speed leading the league in stolen bases with 125.  In the World Series Koufax was named MVP as his pitching stymied the New York Yankees setting the tone in game 1 striking out a then record 15 Yankees that day.  The Dodgers would sweep the Yankees in four.

However, despite winning the World Series after a strong season, the Los Angeles Dodgers have boasted two better teams throughout their history.
