2. Clarkson actually makes a pretty solid point guard

Now, I get it, the last thing the Lakers should be looking for is another point guard. The entire reason the Lakers drafted Ball was for him to act as the crutch of this offense. Everything goes through Ball, the pace of play goes through Ball and for the most part, the team has committed to aiding Ball’s development with their acquisitions.

Theoretically, it would make no sense then for the Lakers to even consider Clarkson at point guard. Shooting guard seemingly is a better fit; except it’s not.

While Clarkson definitely can be a good to great shooting guard at times, most of his success last season came at the point. Clarkson started a good amount of games at the end of last season when the team was experimenting, putting up great numbers in the process.

Clarkson dropped thirty or more points twice, as well as consistently reaching the 15 points mark. While his passing definitely can improve from the 2.6 assists per game he averaged last season, Clarkson seemed much more comfortable and fitting at the point guard position.

Heck, Clarkson doesn’t even need to be a natural point guard. He and Josh Hart can provide an interesting dynamic off the bench for Los Angeles, with both of the players switching off taking the ball up the court. Clarkson and Hart can blur the lines of positions, effectively making them much more dangerous.
