Lakers could win the division if three things happened next season
By Keith Rivas
With the Lakers shaking things up over the summer, here’s how they can steal their division.
As it stands right now, defeating the Golden State Warriors in a seven game series is hard enough. It seems impossible, but the unavoidable truth is that one day someone will have to take their place.
One of the more dominant teams in NBA history, Golden State has benefited from incredible long range shooting via the draft and one big splash in free agency via Kevin Durant. Over the course of the league’s history, though, the Lakers have the upper hand.
In that regard, it’s one of the main reasons that we’ve seen Magic Johnson pull the moves that he has. Trading D’Angelo Russell, drafting Lonzo Ball, and putting pressure to perform on Brandon Ingram after making him an untouchable asset are all part of his master plant to get them back to being great.
Other teams will be in the mix this coming season thanks to the draft as well. Both Phoenix, who drafted fourth, and Sacramento, who drafted fifth, will have their own franchise changing player on the table now. Josh Jackson could be a huge game changer for Phoenix, as he’s versatile and can play wherever you need him to be on the floor.
With Sacramento, De’Aaron Fox will look to lead the Kings to a strong season and possibly restore the rivalry with Los Angeles thanks to his past with Lonzo Ball.
That being said, here are the three ways the Lakers can win the division.
