The Los Angeles Dodgers are threatening to become the best team in baseball, ever. According to the latest Dodgers rumors, who may join this crusade when the rosters expand on September first?

September first is a big day in the baseball world. With the minor league season singing its swan song in mid-September, big league clubs can expand their roster from 25 men to 40 men in preparation for the postseason. This is a time that many top prospects make their debut and playoff teams bring in as much help as they can get.

For the most part, the expansion to 40 men will mirror the 40-man roster already in place. Every team is allocated a roster of 40 guys that can play on the big league team, 25 in the majors, 15 in the minors. That is why you will see teams sending talents up and down with so much ease – because they have the power to do so.

However, there are players on the 40-man roster that are injured. For the Dodgers, guys like Andrew Toles, Franklin Gutierrez and Andre Ethier are on the 40-man roster. While Ethier will likely be back for the playoffs and Gutierrez may be, this still opens up spots for guys not already on the roster.

We have seen it done before and likely will see it again. Los Angeles normally calls up their biggest prospects during this time. In 2014 it was Joc Pederson, in 2015 it was Corey Seager. Both men went on to have successful rookie campaigns the following year.

So, we should expect at least one top prospect to emerge from the Dodgers farm system. However, we will also see guys called up that will add much-needed depth. Every pitch in postseason baseball matters, so the Dodgers are going to need every man they can get.
