O’Koyea Dickson – Outfielder

O’Koyea Dickson has quietly been one of the best contributors in the minor leagues for the Dodgers. However, with Dickson lacking any real flare, he is often overlooked for the promising young talent ahead of him. However, Dickson’s hard work and minor league performance may finally pay off as the Dodgers could use his right-handed bat off the bench.

Dickson has played seven seasons in the minor leagues for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In that time, he has slugged 116 home runs, driven in 432 RBIs and batted .279. Still, Dickson has never been a highly touted talent in the farm system. The 12th round draft pick hasn’t even cracked the Dodgers top 30 prospects list, despite being one of the best performers in AAA.

Dickson is second on the team in runs (68), home runs (23) and RBIs (71). While his tendency to strikeout may be what is holding him back, his 20.9% strikeout rate is actually lower than Cody Bellinger’s was in AAA (28.6%). Granted, Dickson’s .245 average is nowhere close to Bellinger’s .343 average, the outfielder is putting the ball in play more than stats may suggest.

While he may never be more than a utility player at the big league level, the Dodgers certainly can benefit from his power hitting bat. Although he struggles against left-handed pitching, the Dodgers can use any talent they can get. At the very least, Dickson has done the time and deserves his chance to be a part of something special.
