2. Los Angeles’ massive market helps LeBron

I know, this sounds irrelevant, but it is more important than you may think. For nearly his entire career, LeBron James has spent his time in the relatively small market of Cleveland. Still, with not much to play with, James has managed to nearly triple the Cavaliers net worth in the last ten years. Granted, he wasn’t there for four of them.

The team he did call home during those four years, the Miami Heat, aren’t much bigger than the Cavaliers. They are valued around $100 million more than the Cavaliers, but James plays a big role in that. In the four short years that James played on the Heat the franchise’s net worth tripled.

Now, just imagine what he can do with the Los Angeles Lakers. All the marketing money in the world, the big city to draw in other talents, all the other opportunities that aren’t present somewhere in Cleveland. The Lakers are valued at three billion dollars by Forbes, nearly triple that of the Cavaliers and Heat.

LeBron has already had no problem finding guys to join him and LA just makes that process easier. No longer will James have to convince another superstar to come to some small market team, instead, he can convince them to come to perhaps the most prestigious team in the NBA.

Sorry, but Kobe Bryant would not have been as big of a superstar as he was if he had spent his whole career in Charlotte. Los Angeles will only increase James’ star, something increasingly important to him as his chases Michael Jordan’s legacy.
