For the Los Angeles Angels, a wild card berth would change a lot about their season.

Forget the fact that Mike Trout got injured and had to spend some time in the minors. Now, the Angels look like they’re ready to be a force to be reckoned with and their latest win over the Houston Astros proved it.

Right now, Houston has the best record in the American League, and second best in all of baseball — they trail just the Dodgers. With the win, the Angels stay less than a game behind the Minnesota Twins for the second wild card spot and less than four games behind the New York Yankees for the first spot.

Behind Los Angeles in the standings in a virtual tie, however, are the Seattle Mariners. Seattle has had a roller coaster season all its own, but if Los Angeles can hang on and beat out everyone else it’ll be something you won’t want to miss.

Andrelton Simmons had a three run shot in the eighth inning versus Houston that gave the Angels the eventual victory. If the Angels can continue to win against some of the better teams in baseball, going in as a wild card might actually work in their favor.

Knowing that the Astros probably will finish in first place of the AL West and the American League as a whole, we could see a Houston versus Los Angeles match up in the ALDS.

The win also ended a three game skid, but that hasn’t seemed to stop the Angels from sticking around. Also, the more noise they can make towards the latter part of the season, the better we could see them perform in the hunt for October.

Plus, if the Yankees stay in the first wild card spot, it’ll be fun to see a potential Mike Trout-Aaron Judge show down.
