13. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. TE. player. ESPN Rank: Fourth on Chargers, 10th in TE. Hunter Henry. 3

It’s very rare for a rookie tight end to make any sort of impact, but that’s exactly what Hunter Henry managed to do in his first season in the league. The second round pick out of Arkansas led all tight ends with eight touchdowns even though he was on the field for just 54% of the Chargers offensive plays.

It seems like a foregone conclusion that Henry will eclipse 36-year-old Chargers legend Antonio Gates as the Chargers starting tight end, but it’s unclear if this will lead to a breakout fantasy season.

Henry must continue to improve on his blocking skills if he wants to be on the field on every down for the Chargers. In an offense that should be balanced between Melvin Gordon’s downhill running and Philip Rivers deep throws, Henry will have to be balanced in his own skill set to compliment his teammates.

The fact that Hunter Henry will be the starting tight end in a high-octane offense should give fantasy owners the confidence to select him as their own starting tight end in the middle rounds of their drafts. He could run into trouble if you consider that the Chargers have so many options on offense, that Henry could fall behind in the pecking order with Philip Rivers.
