Fantasy Football: The five best Chargers to target this season
By Jason Elbaum
Keenan Allen is the Chargers clear-cut number one wide receiver but has been synonymous with injuries throughout his three years in the league. While he’s been active, he’s been heavily utilized in the Chargers offense and has clearly developed great chemistry with Philip Rivers.
He has yet to play a full 16 games in any of his three seasons, but he has been the target for about 25% of Philip Rivers’ passes when he’s been on the field. This number should dip with the emergence of Tyrell Williams and seventh overall pick Mike Williams in the mix, but Keenan Allen is still the lead receiver in this offense.
Something to keep in mind when considering Allen on draft day is whether or not you are in a keeper league. Keenan Allen is about to hit the prime of his career, and his chemistry with Philip Rivers is blossoming. If he stays healthy, he’s an every-week starter on keeper league teams for years to come.
It was tragic for Keenan Allen owners when he went down with an ACL injury in week one of last season, but it was truly an unlucky moment that could have happened to anyone. Allen is just as talented as any second-tier wide receiver in the league, which is why he should be targeted as a WR2 on draft day.
