The largest soccer league in the United States, Major League Soccer (MLS), has begun to gain traction across the country, as more and more Americans are tuning into the world’s most popular game broadcast in the Western Hemisphere. A sport is only as popular as its athletes, so let’s discuss four European stars who could make a splash in the MLS, particularly Los Angeles.

The reason I say Los Angeles as a city and not necessarily suggesting these players join the Los Angeles Galaxy is that in 2018, Los Angeles will be host to a second soccer club, Los Angeles FC. The MLS expansion club plans on building a 22,000-seat soccer-specific venue in the heart of Los Angeles, hoping to capture the market of LA soccer fans who have yet to pledge their allegiance to the Galaxy.

There is definitely reason to be excited for the new club in town, as they hired former United States Men’s National Team head coach Bob Bradley as its manager in its first ever season. He has a great resume that includes coaching in the English Premier league and has a good rapport with American players.

With all of the growth surrounding the MLS’s current landscape, there is still a lack of star players that are well-known around the world. Players such as Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, and Ashley Cole are examples of players who came to the United States toward the end of their career and have seen success in their play in their time in the league.

These players were excellent in their time in Europe, and have definitely contributed to the league’s popularity with their quality play and marketability. However, imagine the popularity spike that the league would witness if a transcendent European talent came to play in the MLS while still in their prime, or while still possessing the same qualities they had while playing at the highest levels in Europe.

Los Angeles is the perfect destination for this type of player. The weather is beautiful, business opportunities are everywhere, and soccer is a booming sport in the city.

Let’s take a look at some potential suitors for either Los Angeles Galaxy or expansion side Los Angeles Football Club.
