LeBron James could seek a partnership with Russell Westbrook in LA.

First, it was Paul George, then it was LeBron James. Now, George’s teammate Russell Westbrook has joined the fold as a potential target for Los Angeles. Per Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, there are whispers around the league that Westbrook is LeBron’s number one choice of teammate were he to join the Lakers.

This duo would undoubtedly surpass Kevin Durant and Steph Curry as the best one-two punch in basketball. Both men can drop a triple-double at ease every single night and both bring freak athleticism and playmaking skills to the court. A James-Westbrook led offense would be so high paced, so physical and so fun to watch.

However, there is a variable in this equation; Lonzo Ball. Ball was selected by the Lakers with the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and looks to be their point guard of the future. Of course, Russell Westbrook is a point guard and likely would not benefit from a move to shooting guard.

The fact of the matter is that Westbrook simply is not a good enough shooter to play the two. Last season Westbrook would not have even ranked in the top 50 in three-point percentage for shooting guards. Running an offense at the point is where Westbrook belongs, and quite frankly, he would not be all that great at the two.

While the Lakers ultimately could deal Ball for another superstar to form a big three, it is hard seeing the Lakers giving up on Ball so soon. But hey, a Westbrook-James super team may just push the front office to extremes.
