Chargers vs Broncos: Five players to watch for on Monday Night
By Jason Reed
In the second Monday Night Football matchup of week one, Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers head to Denver to take on Trevor Siemian and the Broncos.
It’s a new season in a new city for the Los Angeles Chargers. Despite being riddled with talent, the Chargers have struggled the last few seasons, only putting together nine wins in the previous two years. However, the team has remained in almost every single game they have played and start their 2017 off with an interesting matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Although the Broncos did just win Super Bowl 50 two years ago, they are a shell of their former selves. The offense is seemingly dead, with its fate in the hands of a third-year quarterback that was drafted in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft, six picks ahead of the last overall pick in that same draft.
The defense in Denver is still rock solid though. Von Miller leads a defensive unit consisting of Brandon Marshall, Chris Harris and Aqib Talib. Denver still has, on paper, the best defense in the NFL. However, the Chargers are bringing their own threat into the Mile High consisting of a front trio of Joey Bosa, Corey Luiget and Melvin Ingram.
While at the end of the day the Chargers and Broncos may just be battling for third place in their division, this matchup will set the table for how the seasons of both teams pan out. If Los Angeles wins their first game as the LA Chargers, the confidence will be riding high.
However, if the team blows yet another lead like thay have in the past two seasons, it may just seem to be the same song and dance. Regardless, this week one matchup is very interesting, here are five players to watch Monday night.
